Deadwood film confirmed for 2019
The long-rumoured movie is finally confirmed.
The Deadwood spin-off film has been confirmed for next year, HBO says.
The beloved Western series was cancelled after its third season in 2006 but will now be revived in feature-length form.
Rumours of the development of the film have been abound for a while, with talks of the script being completed despite HBO being unwilling to confirm anything before now.
The key cast members from the series are all set to return for the film, which includes Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane and Molly Parker.
Deadwood follows the titular as it builds itself up and welcomes new residents during the American gold rush.
The series has been noted as one of the first steps into the current “golden age” of TV, with it scoring huge critical acclaim for HBO.
That didn’t stop the network from cancelling it due to low viewing figures - something that would be unlikely to happen today thanks to the rise of streaming services that did not exist in 2006.
Filming for the movie is set to begin in October of this year, with the release date penned for sometime in 2019.
It is not yet known how HBO will distribute the Deadwood film, which could, in theory, see a release in cinemas alongside the channel itself.
