Defenders season 2 in doubts
The superhero all-star team might not be back.
Marvel's The Defenders may not return for a second season, Krysten Ritter has said.
In an interview, the Jessica Jones star claimed that the series was always supposed to be a one-off, meaning that there are no current plans for a second Defenders run.
“Y'know, I had a great time doing The Defenders and honestly, it was such a good experience that I would even do it again. I don't think we are doing it again. It was never intentioned to do it again, but, you know, if I was given another opportunity, I would.”
Jessica Jones returned to Netflix this week for the second season and is set after the events of Defenders. The show will join Luke Cage season 2 and Daredevil season 3 as part of Netflix's 2018 Marvel lineup.
Ritter added that she was more focused on Jessica Jones due to its more personal story, but would always be up for more Defenders.
“My heart is with my show because of the subject matter and because of the great drama that we get to do and the personal issues that we explore. For me, that is more the type of content that I enjoy as a viewer and as a performer. My heart is in Jessica Jones, but I did have a great time doing The Defenders with the guys. We had a good time. It is what it is.”
The Defenders received muted reviews when it first launched, with the show taking too long to get the heroes together and the plot not interesting enough to sustain 8 episodes.
Despite waning interest in the Netflix series, the Marvel film juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down, with Black Panther recently hitting $1 billion at the box office and Avengers: Infinity War on the way in April.
You can catch all of the Marvel series on Netflix right now, alongside films like Avengers Assemble and Ant-Man.
