Disney finalises Fox takeover

Disney continues its world domination.

Disney has completed its takeover of 21st Century Fox.

The deal, thought to be worth over $70 billion, will takeover the entertainment producer and all the properties it owns.

The move has been in the works for months, with Disney reportedly buying the company in order to boost its assets for its upcoming streaming service Disney+.

The takeover means that Disney now owns the rights to such famous franchises as X-Men, Deadpool, Planet of the Apes, The Simpsons, Alien, Predator and Ice Age, among many more.

As well as this, it means Disney now owns a majority part of Sky, which only operates in the UK and Europe.

The entertainment giant now also owns a 30% stake in US streaming service Hulu, which is not yet available in the UK.

Disney will now control a number of TV channels, including FX, National Geographic and 22 regional sports networks.

With the acquisition, fans of the Marvel films will be wondering if Disney will roll characters such as the X-Men and Fantastic 4 into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something it was previously unable to do thanks to Fox owning the rights to the characters.

The move puts Disney in an extremely strong position to compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon, with the company now owning a huge amount of different IP.
