Disney+ sets release date for Artemis Fowl

The film will be available from 12th June.

Disney+ has revealed the release date for its upcoming film Artemis Fowl

Subscribers to the service will be able to stream the family-friendly fantasy from 12th June.

Based on the best-selling children’s book of the same name by Irish author Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl follows the titular 12-year-old criminal mastermind (Ferdia Shaw) who must battle against a secret race of fairies in order to find his missing father.

The film was directed by Kenneth Branagh with Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Colin Farrell, Nikesh Patel and Lara McDonnell also set to star.

Plans to adapt Colfer’s novel for the big screen were first announced all the way back in 2001 with Disney attempting to get it off the ground again in both 2011 and 2013.

Artemis Fowl was intended for a cinematic release on May 29th but this was changed to Disney+ due to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic.

This outbreak has caused a major reshuffle to Disney’s planned release schedule for the next few years.

All of the upcoming Marvel films for example have been pushed back to accommodate Black Widow moving from its original April release date to 6th November, which was originally supposed to be occupied by The Eternals

Artemis Fowl is a true original,” said Branagh. “In challenging times, a twelve year old criminal mastermind is one heck of a traveling companion. Smart, funny, and cool as mustard, he’ll take you to new worlds, meet unforgettable characters, and mix magic with mayhem.”
