Doctor Who series 12 to air in 2020

The Doctor won't be back until the next decade.

Doctor Who will not return until 2020, the BBC has confirmed.

The sci-fi series recently aired the final episode of series 11, featuring Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor.

Whilst the series will return on New Year’s Day for a special episode, a new ll series won’t appear until 2020.

This will mark 15 years after the show returned to British screens in 2005, with a revival that follows the same continuity as the original series.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall said that his team loved working on the show and was attempting to make series 12 the best yet.

“We’re off again! Well, we never actually stopped – as Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and friends have been winning the hearts of families across the nation this autumn, we’ve been busy with a whole new set of action-packed adventures for the Thirteenth Doctor.

“We adore making this show and have been blown away by the response from audiences, so we can’t wait to bring more scares, more monsters and more Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole to BBC One. Brilliant!”

Whilst fan reaction to series 11 has been middling, ratings for the series are up on previous outings, meaning the show will likely continue on for quite a while yet.

You can watch the first 9 seasons of Doctor Who on Netflix right now.
