Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge team up for Mr and Mrs Smith series
The two will take on the roles originally played by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will star in Amazon’s TV remake of the 2005 action-comedy Mr and Mrs Smith.
The original starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as a seemingly normal married couple who were secretly both assassins working to kill each other.
It’s most remembered nowadays for its behind-the-scenes celebrity drama as its shoot was where the former power couple fell in love, despite Pitt still being married to Jennifer Aniston.
Francesca Sloane, who is also a writer on Glover’s critically-acclaimed series Atlanta, will serve as showrunner while Glover and Waller-Bridge will act as executive producers.
Original director Doug Liman did previously attempt to adapt his film into a TV series starring Grey’s Anatomy’s Martin Henderson and Jordana Brewster in 2007, but US network ABC declined to pick it up for a full season.
"Talk about the dream team!” said Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios. "Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world.”
"It's truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team."
Mr and Mrs Smith will be available to stream on Amazon Prime sometime in 2022.
