First trailer for Netflix series The Politician

This show is the first to materialize out of Ryan Murphy's £300 million deal with the platform.

Netflix has released the first trailer for Ryan Murphy’s upcoming comedy series The Politician.

The show follows hyper ambitious high-school student Payton (Tony award-winner Ben Platt) in the race to become student-body president.

Set to skewer ultra-privileged America, the three minute clip sets up the show’s dark, over-the-top satirical tone with plenty of manipulation, false promises and aggressive campaigning.

Payton is shown to be someone who’s determined to do anything to win, including hiring terminally ill classmate Infinity (Zoey Deutch) as his running mate for the sympathy vote

Equally ruthless is opponent Astrid (Lucy Boynton) who seriously considers the suggestion to assassinate him.

Gwyneth Paltrow also stars as his Mum Georgina alongside American Horror Story alumni Jessica Lange as Infinity’s con-artist grandma.

The show is a planned anthology series with each installment exploring a different level of Payton’s journey to become President of the United States.

You can stream all eight episodes of The Politician on Netflix from 27th September.
