A fan favourite character is back!

The first trailer for the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Picard has appeared online.
Most excitingly for longtime fans, the clip shows the return of Q (played by original actor John De Lancie) as he appears to Picard (Patrick Stewart) in his French chateau.
“Welcome my friend” he says in a voiceover “to the end of the road not taken” which seems to suggest that this season will take place in some kind of alternate reality he’s created.
This theory is supported by glimpses of Captain Rios (Santiago Cabrera) wearing a different Starfleet badge and the android Soji (Isa Briones) sporting a new haircut and white suit.
Perhaps most tellingly, is its final shot which shows Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) looking in the mirror to discover she no longer has the borg implants on her face.
It’s been announced that co-creator Michael Chabon will step down as showrunner for this second season with director Akiva Goldsman and Terry Matalas set to replace him.
He’ll remain onboard as a writer and is set to script two episodes. Former Star Trek actor Jonathan Frakes has also confirmed that he’ll return as a director in some capacity.
Alongside those cast members mentioned above, Alison Pill, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Orla Brady are also all set to return.
You can stream the entire first season of Star Trek: Picard on Amazon Prime now.
