First trailer for The Mist series surfaces

The latest Stephen King adaptation is here.

The first trailer for the upcoming TV adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist has been released.

The series adapts one of King's classic novellas, where a mysterious mist engulfs a small town in the US state of Maine and unleashes horrors on the residents.

The story was adapted into a film in 2007 by director Frank Darabont that starred Thomas Jane and Toby Jones.

The trailer suggests that the series will retain King's spooky small-town tone as well as some of the fun gore of the film.

Danish writer Christian Torpe is acting as the showrunner of the series and mentioned in an interview that he was thrilled to be adapting King's work.

"Adapting a book, especially a book by someone I love and respect as much as Mr. King, is, well, horrifying. You want to be respectful of the material, but in this case there was already one brilliant adaptation of it by Frank Darabont. No point in doing that again.

“So the question becomes do you leave it, say that it's already been done, or do you allow yourself to take the source material and reimagine it, but staying true to Mr. King's vision? I chose the latter."

Torpe also claimed that the TV version would be different to both the book and the film in a number of ways, citing the series Fargo as an inspiration.

"I've compared it to the way they approached adapting Fargo, not in terms of content, but in how they played with the original material. Some things are exactly the same, some are totally different.

“Some things you think are the same as in the original, but turn out to be something else entirely. Some things you think make no sense at first, but end up tying into the original story."

The Mist will air in June in the US, with no word as of yet to suggest when it will appear in the UK.
