Fluid Viewing unveiled with Sky Q

Sky has officially announced its latest entertainment service Sky Q, which combines satellite and internet TV, while providing customers with a seamless viewing experience and a range of new, innovative features.

Through the family of Sky Q products, customers will be able to connect wirelessly and access their favourite shows, along with an enormous on demand library of content, at any time.

A key feature is the ‘Fluid Viewing'; you will be able to watch shows from your set-top box anywhere in the home via another TV or tablet, with the option to pause viewing and pick up exactly where you left off in a different room.

The wireless Sky Q Mini box or the Sky Q app for tablets allows complete access to everything on the box and available on demand with your subscription.

This new technology will also let you save recordings to a tablet so you can watch on the go, and you can watch different programmes on as many as five screens while recordings four other channels at the same time, which makes it a UK and Ireland first.

The TV guide gets reinvented too, as a touchpad remote lets you easily scroll through what's on, and check out recommended Top Picks.

As part of the service, more content will become available directly through Sky Q.  Integrated apps bring you the latest news and sport, you‘ll be able to browse Facebook, and you can stream music through your TV sound system with either Bluetooth or Apple's AirPlay service.

The Vevo app will allow on demand music video streaming, and YouTube compatibility will see customers able to watch their favourite clips.

For broadband customers, the Sky Q Hub supercharges your connection by turning your Sky boxes into Wi-Fi hotspots, which means you'll get better and broader wireless web coverage throughout the home.

Jeremy Darroch, Sky's Chief Executive, said: “Sky Q is a brilliant new way for customers to experience TV on their terms.

“We wanted to re-imagine TV so that it's flexible and seamless across different screens and to put a huge choice of entertainment at their fingertips. We think customers are going to love Sky Q and the great news is that it will get even better with much more to come in the future.”

There are currently no details on pricing, but Sky Q is set to launch in early 2016.  Check out our What is Sky Q guide for updates and information on price, release dates and tech specs.
