Four Game of Thrones spin-offs reported to be in development

HBO aren't quite done with Thrones yet.

Up to four Game of Thrones spin-offs are reportedly planned for after the series ends.

Culture magazine Variety has claimed that HBO is planning a number of spin-offs that will continue the show beyond its main series, which is due to end next year.

Creator of the book series, George RR Martin, is said to be working with four sets of writers to develop shows that will take place in different periods of time in the show's continuity.

Writers reported to be working with Martin are Kong: Skull Island's Max Borenstein, Kingsman writer Jane Goldman, L.A. Confidential's Oscar winner Brian Helgeland and Westworld's Carly Wray.

The current writers of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and DB Weiss, are currently not attached to any of the projects, with the showrunners previously claiming that after the series was finished, they'd move on.

A spokesperson for HBO said that the shows would only happen when the writers have definitive scripts.

"We'll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in."

Game of Thrones has been a massive success for HBO, with its popularity driving up subscriptions to the premium cable channel.

Casey Bloys, programming president for HBO, said previously in the year that the network was planning on spin-offs, but that nothing definitive was in the works.

He also claimed that they were more interested in doing a prequel series or a spin-off involving minor characters, rather than a Tyrion series, for example.

Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on July 17th. NOW TV customers can catch up with the full six seasons until August.
