Game of Thrones breaks Emmy awards record
Game of Thrones has broken the record for number of Emmy awards won after picking up 12 new awards on Sunday.
The hugely popular fantasy series saw its Emmy tally rise to 38 on Sunday night, surpassing the previous record holder, comedy series Frasier.
Sunday's ceremony saw the series triumph in 12 different categories, including Outstanding Drama series, Outstanding Casting and Outstanding Production Design.
This year, the show was mainly successful in awards outside the main ceremony, with best actor and best director awards being given out to other shows.
Rami Malek scooped up Outstanding Lead Actor for his role in Mr. Robot, with Lead Actress going to Tatiana Maslany for drama series Orphan Black.
The awards also saw a number of British talents recognised. BBC series Sherlock won best TV movie for The Abominable Bride special and Dame Maggie Smith won Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role in Downton Abbey - the third time she's picked up the award.
John Oliver also won an award for his talk series Last Week Tonight, which has been a hit on premium cable channel HBO.
Second to Game of Thrones, the other big winner at this year's awards was The People vs OJ Simpson, which walked away with five awards on the night.
This mini-series dramatised the OJ Simpson trial in the 1990's, with 3 of its actors being awarded, including Sterling K Brown and Sarah Paulson.
Game of Thrones is due to return to screens next year for its penultimate season, whilst Mr. Robot has just finished its second season, which is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
