Game of Thrones prequel to begin filming this year
Game of Thrones will begin production sooner than you think.
The prequel series to Game of Thrones could begin filming this October.
Filming for the standard series is currently wrapping up, with Arya actor Maisie Williams confirming that she had finished filming.
Now, it appears that the planned prequel series will begin production sooner than expected, with filming rumoured to start in Belfast in October.
The Belfast Telegraph has claimed that staff at the city’s Paint Hall studios have been briefed that their next project will be set 1000 years before the events of Game of Thrones, seemingly confirming the show’s filming.
HBO is busy readying for the end of Game of Thrones, with a reported 5 spinoff series in the works.
This specific series is being written by Kingsman: The Secret Service writer Jane Goldman alongside series creator George RR Martin and will take place in the “Age of Heroes”.
The official description sheds some light on what the series will entail:
"Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
"And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know."
Whilst this doesn’t give too much away, it does suggest that the show will get deeper into the lore of the show, which should please both TV and book fans of the franchise.
