Game of Thrones season 7 UK release date confirmed

Winter is coming in July.

HBO has announced the release date of the 7th season of Game of Thrones along with a new teaser trailer.

The show will begin again on the 16th July in the US, airing on the 17th in the UK.

The fantasy epic airs on premium cable channel HBO in the US, with Sky Atlantic having the rights to broadcast it in the UK.

Like the last season, the show will be simulcast in the UK and US, meaning that eager fans can watch it at 2am on Sky Atlantic.

The episode will be repeated at 9pm on Sky Atlantic or will be available to stream on NOW TV at any time after the original broadcast.

Unlike the previous seasons, which ran for 10 episodes each, the newest will only feature 7 episodes, as the series races towards its dramatic conclusion.

Season 7 is expected to be a mixture of original story elements and content taken from the unreleased Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring novels.

Showrunner and writer David Benioff has spoken about how the show will come to its final confrontation between the families of Westeros.

“The pieces are on the board now. Some of the pieces have been removed from the board and we are heading toward the endgame.

“The thing that has excited us from the beginning, back to the way we pitched it to HBO is, it's not supposed to be an ongoing show, where every season it's trying to figure out new storylines. We wanted it to be one giant story, without padding it out to add an extra 10 hours, or because people are still watching it. We wanted to do something where, if people watched it end to end, it would make sense as one continuous story. We're definitely heading into the endgame now.”

From May the 1st, Sky and NOW TV viewers will be able to catch up on the entire series on-demand thanks to Sky Box Sets.
