Game of Thrones will never get revival, says HBO

The series won't return after it ends next year.

Game of Thrones will be revived after its final season, HBO has confirmed.

CEO of the cable network, Casey Bloys, said in an interview that the show would not be brought back down the line with the same characters.

That's not happening," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "This story, A Song of Ice and Fire, is done. There's no revival, reboot, spinoff talk."

When asked about the upcoming season 8, Bloys said the creative control over the series was entirely down to the writers.

"It really will be dependent on when the showrunners get the cuts and what they're happy with.

"Everything on Game of Thrones is driven by their desire to make the best show possible. When we're going to air, how long the episodes are – we're taking their lead on what they need."

Despite the pushback against the idea of a revival, we do know that there are several prequel series in development, though these won't feature the same characters.

Fans have speculated as to what these new series could entail, with a Robert's Rebellion series the most suggested.

Game of Thrones season 8 is filming now but won't be broadcast until next year.

You'll be able to catch Game of Thrones season 8 on Sky Atlantic and the NOW TV Entertainment Pass in 2019.
