Gavin and Stacey co-creators tease show's possible return
Fans are desperate to know what Smithy said.
Ruth Jones and James Corden have hinted that their popular sitcom Gavin and Stacey could be returning for a fourth season.
The pair issued a joint statement to thank all of those who tuned in to the recent 2019 Christmas special, after it was revealed that it was the biggest TV programme in the UK outside of sporting and national events since records began in 2002.
“It’s mind blowing that so many people watched our show - we still can’t get our heads round it, what a massive compliment,” they wrote.
“We are indebted to the BBC for their incredible support but most importantly to those 18.5 million viewers for watching.”
It’s the final line however that has caused fans to start speculating online.
“We just hope one day we can let them know what Smithy said next”
The hugely popular festive special ended on a major cliffhanger which saw Nessa (Jones) proposing to Smithy (Corden) but then cut to black before he could reply.
It was the first new episode of the show broadcast in nine years since season 3 concluded on New Year's day 2010.
Fellow star Joanna Page, who plays the titular Stacey, has also previously said she’d “put money on the show coming back.”
