George Clooney Catch-22 series to air on Channel 4

Channel 4 snaps up more rights for US series.

Channel 4 has picked up the rights to air the upcoming Catch-22 series.

The series, based on Joseph Heller's 1961 satirical novel, is being produced by George Clooney's production house Smokehouse Pictures.

Clooney was also set to star in the series before pulling out to move into a production role only.

Along with Clooney, the series will be co-produced by Sky Italia, who will air the series in Italy and Paramount Television, with Hulu airing the series in the US.

The show will run for 6 episodes and is set in Italy during WWII who accepts dangerous missions in order to be declared insane, but must contend with the fact that a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity.

Christopher Abbott (Girls) is set to star in the main role, with Hugh Laurie joining him as the co-lead.

Kyle Chandler will also star in the series, playing the role that Clooney was originally due to play.

Catch-22 will shoot on-location in Sardinia and Rome this month, with the series set to air later in the year.

Director of Programmes for Channel 4, Ian Katz, said that Catch-22 was a perfect show for 2018.

“It's hard to imagine a work that speaks more directly to the frequently absurd times we live in, and to the growing sense of individual distrust of institutions. Michod and Davies' script crackles with irony, anger and humanity.”

You'll be able to watch Catch-22 when it airs on Channel 4 later this year.
