George RR Martin’s Nightflyers gets first trailer
This sci-fi thriller is the latest in a long line of adaptations.
The first trailer for George RR Martin’s Nightflyers has been released.
The trailer, which is the first we’ve seen at the show, debuted at the San Diego Comic Con and offers a look at what appears to be a slick sci-fi series.
Nightflyers is based on one of the author’s pre-Game of Thrones novels, though he will not be involved with the series itself due to commitments with HBO.
The show follows a crew of astronauts as they explore an abandoned spaceship on the eve of the Earth’s destruction.
The series appears to be thematically quite similar to the film Event Horizon, with a space crew being driven mad on an abandoned ship by powers they can’t understand.
The SDCC has brought with it a number of TV trailers for upcoming shows, including Doctor Who, Better Call Saul and Titans.
Nightflyers is set to be aired on SyFy in the US and Netflix in the UK, though the trailer did not reveal a release date.
The novella was previously released as a limited-release movie in 1987 but was basically unheard of until Martin found mainstream success with Game of Thrones.
Due to that success, HBO is planning a number of Game of Thrones spin-offs that will ensure the novelist is involved in TV adaptations for a long while yet.
