Get Out director to helm Twilight Zone reboot

Jordan Peele will serve as an excuetive producer alongside Simon Kinberg and Marco Ramierz.

Jordan Peele, director of the critically-acclaimed horror film Get Out, has been selected by American TV network CBS to helm their upcoming reboot of The Twilight Zone.

Along with Simon Kinberg and Marco Ramierz, who've worked on successful sci-fi films like The Martian and Marvel's Netflix-only superhero team-up The Defenders respectively, Peele will serve as one of the show's executive producers.

There's currently no word on an official release date or who's set to star, but it has been confirmed the above three will also be collaborating to write and direct the all-important premiere episode.

Originally created by Rod Serling, the Twilight Zone debuted in 1959 and told a selection of self-contained, moralistic stories each week with strong horror, sci-fi and fantasy themes.

It received huge critical acclaim and was consistently popular with audiences right up until its cancellation in 1954 after running for five seasons.

Two revivals have since taken place, one in 1985 which lasted for three seasons and one in 2002 which was cancelled after only one.

A feature-length film was also released in 1983 starring Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks with segments directed by John Landis and Steven Spielberg.

This kind of sci-fi and horror anthology shows have seen a huge boost in popularity over the last few years with Charlie Brooker's brilliant Black Mirror about to enter its fourth season and the release of Channel 4's Electric Dreams which featured ten episodes based on the stories of Philip K. Dick.

Peele is also currently working on an adaptation of Matt Ruff's 2016 novel Lovecraft Country which mixes the terrifying monsters of author H.P Lovecraft with the real-life horrors of the Jim Crow laws in the USA.
