The Fall’s Gillian Anderson has said that the critically-acclaimed crime drama could potentially return for a fourth season.
The actress recently appeared on Variety’s online talk show Actors on Actors with The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss where the conversation turned to which past roles they’d like to revisit.
“I think probably The Fall, and that’s something we are in discussions about,” she said. “Even when we ended those three seasons, we talked about the fact that one day — maybe in the same way that Prime Suspect came back.”
“There were huge breaks between their seasons. Our writer-creator-director Allan Cubitt has been ready to dip back in and revisit it and her.”
Cubitt or anybody else on the production team has yet to respond to Anderson’s comments.
Lasting for three seasons between 2013 and 2016, The Fall follows DSI Stella Gibson (Anderson) as she’s seconded to Northern Ireland to help catch the terrifying serial killer known as The Belfast Strangler aka Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan).
Although the latter committed suicide in a psychiatric hospital after being apprehended for his crimes at the end of season 3, a new season still has plenty to explore with Gibson.
It could possibly see her investigate a brand-new case back in London or dig deeper into some of Spector’s other victims, something which began in the final season.
You can stream all three seasons of The Fall on Netflix now.
