Goonies and Aliens stars confirmed for Stranger Things season 2

New castings have been revealed for the second season of Stranger Things, who fans of 80’s films might recognise.

Sean Astin, star of The Goonies and more recently the Lord of the Rings films, has signed on to play a character called Bob Newby, described as a “kindhearted former nerd who went to highschool with Joyce”.

Astin's character works in a radio shop, suggesting he'll play a big role if radio communication continues to be one of the series' biggest plot devices.

As well as Astin, Paul Reiser has also been confirmed to appear in the show, playing Dr. Owens - a “high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a 'clean-up' assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year."

Reiser played a similar role in the 1986 sci-fi/action film Aliens, but is best known for his comedic roles in shows such as Mad About You

Actress Linnea Berthelsen has also been cast in one of her first roles, playing Roman, an "emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab."

This is the latest announcement of casting for the second season of the Netflix Original, which is due to air at some point next year.

In October, it was confirmed that Dacre Montgomery (who stars in the new Power Rangers film) and actress Sadie Sink had been cast and would play significant roles in the show.

Season one of Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix now. For the best deals on Netflix and other streaming services, check out Digital TV.
