Handmaid’s Tale season 2 to air in Spring 2018

The Handmaid's Tale will return early next year.

The second season of The Handmaid's Tale has been confirmed to air in Spring 2018.

The series, which is adapted from Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel, received massive critical acclaim when it aired earlier this year, becoming the first streaming service series to win the Outstanding Drama Emmy Award.

Hulu confirmed that the show would return early next year, but has not yet revealed a specific date.

The Handmaid's Tale is a Hulu Original programme and has been the streaming platform's most popular property.

The show aired on Channel 4 in the UK, a few weeks out from the airing in the US, with season 2 expected to follow the same schedule.

The news was broken by Hulu on Twitter, with a video claiming that the series was currently in production.

The Handmaid's Tale adapts Atwood's novel and focuses around an American society that's been overthrown by religious zealots and treats women like property to procreate.

Elisabeth Moss has been widely praised for her performance in the lead role, with the actress returning for the second season.

The first season largely adapted the story from the original novel, with the second due to expand the story beyond where the novel ended.

Whatever the second season holds in store, it'll be interesting to see how the show can expand on the novel.
