Hannibal writer has “great idea” for season 4

The cancelled show could see new life yet.

The writer of Hannibal has said that he has plans for season 4 of the cancelled show.

Bryan Fuller, who acted as showrunner for the series, says he has fully planned out the events of a theoretic 4th season of the series.

Hannibal was cancelled in 2015 after 3 seasons, with fans since clamouring for its return.

The series starred Mads Mikkelsen as the titular psychiatrist and cannibal, as he teamed up and came to blows with Hugh Dancy as FBI profiler Will Graham.

Hannibal was based on the series of novels by author Thomas Harris, which have also been adapted into films like Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs.

Fuller said in an interview that he was still interested in bringing the series back at some point in the future.

"I have conversations with [Hannibal executive producer] Martha De Laurentiis. I have conversations with Mads and Hugh. We're are all excited about the prospect of returning to the story.

"There's some hurdles to get through… [But] I just had a great idea for season 4. There's an interesting next chapter in the relationship between Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter that would be fascinating to unpack. I've shared it with the gentlemen and they're both keen on it."

The last episode of Hannibal ended on a cliffhanger, which fans are eager to see resolved.

Despite the fan support for the show, star Hugh Dancy claimed that he didn't expect it to return for “four or five years”.

You can watch the first season of Hannibal on Netflix now.
