HBO confirms that I May Destroy You won't return for season 2
I May Destroy You was voted as one of the best shows of 2020 by many critics.
Michaela Coel’s acclaimed drama I May Destroy You will not be back for a second season.
HBO’s Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys confirmed the news in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter saying that “I don’t think there’s going to be another I May Destroy You, there’s no season two coming.”
“She (Coel) is thinking about what she wants to do next and hopefully we’ll be lucky enough to partner up with her again.”
The series follows London-based writer Arabella (Coel) attempting to rebuild her life after being sexually assaulted on a night out.
Weruche Opia, Paapa Essiedu, Marouane Zotti, Harriet Webb, Stephen Wright, Franc Ashman and Aml Ameen also star.
Bloys went on to announce that Luca Guadagnino’s coming-of-age drama Who Are Who We Are, one of the network’s other celebrated series from 2020, will also not receive a second season.
The fate of HBO’s sci-fi horror series Lovecraft Country is still up in the air.
Although nothing concrete has been confirmed, Bloys has previously stated that its creator Misha Green has been working with a group of writers to come up with ideas for a potential second season.
I May Destroy You is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
