HBO debuts full-length Watchmen trailer
The clip was first at aired at this year's Comic Con.
HBO has released the first full-length trailer for Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen TV series.
The Lost creator has previously confirmed that it won’t be a sequel or a reboot of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s classic comic, but rather a totally new story set in the same universe.
Exactly what this story is isn’t completely clear yet, but the clip teases the rise of some new vigilantes, explosive clashes and the presence of an unstable group who’ve adopted the Rorschach mask as their symbol.
Regina King is featured prominently as a police detective turned masked superhero as is Jean Smart’s FBI Agent Blake.
Watchmen has an ensemble cast that boasts Don Johnson, Louis Gossett Jr, Andrew Howard Tim Blake Nelson, Adelaide Clemens and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Although it’s a brand-new story, characters from the original work are to appear with the Hooded Justice and Jeremy Irons’s older Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias both shown.
The all-powerful Dr Manhattan is also briefly glimpsed in a news report residing on Mars.
Watchmen was previously adapted into a fairly well-received feature film in 2009 by Zac Snyder starring Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Malin Akerman and Jackie Earle Haley.
While there’s no specific release date, Watchmen will premiere here in the UK sometime this October.
