HBO releases the second trailer for Lovecraft Country
The series mixes the supernatural terror of author H.P Lovecraft with the very real horror of 1950s Jim Crow America.
HBO has debuted the second trailer for their upcoming sci-fi horror series Lovecraft Country.
Based on the acclaimed 2016 book of the same name by Matt Ruff, it follows Atticus (Jonathan Majors), his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) and friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) as they journey across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father.
This clip shows a bit more of the series supernatural elements than the first did while also illustrating the danger the main characters face from the deeply racist population of the time, with shots of burning crosses and a police vehicle attempting to ram them off the road.
We also see demonic-looking humans covered in blood as well people being thrown around by an unseen force and terrifying creatures in the woods which look like they’ve come straight from a H.P Lovecraft novel.
American author H.P Lovecraft is well known for his particular brand of supernatural horror. His most famous creation is the evil cosmic entity Cthulhu who wants to enslave humanity and destroy the world.
Lovecraft Country was created by Underground’s Misha Green and has Jordan Peele and J.J Abrams serving as executive producers.
Yann Demange, who helmed the first season of gritty London-set drama Top Boy, will direct the pilot episode with Game of Thrones’s Daniel Sackheim on the second and third.
Lovecraft Country will air here in the UK sometime during Summer 2020.
