HBO releases first trailer for Joss Whedon's The Nevers

The show is expected to arrive in the UK sometime this spring.

HBO has released the first trailer for Joss Whedon’s new sci-fi fantasy series The Nevers

The show is set in an alternate version Victorian London where three years prior, certain people began to develop mysterious powers. This group has become known as The Touched.

Led by widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and the inventor Penance (Ann Skelly), The Touched must fight back against those who wish to destroy them.

It boasts a large ensemble cast which also includes James Norton, Nick Frost, Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinosn, Pip Torrens, Ben Chaplin and American Horror Story’s Dennis O’Hare.

The Nevers was created by Joss Whedon who originally intended to serve as its showrunner before he announced back in November that he would be departing the project.

“While developing and producing The Nevers has been a joyful experience, I realize that the level of commitment required moving forward, combined with the physical challenges of making such a huge show during a global pandemic, is more than I can handle without the work beginning to suffer," he said in a statement.

Philppa Goslett, whose credits include sci-fi comedy How to Talk to Girls at Parties, will replace him. Whedon, Jane Espenson, Doug Petrie and Laurie Penny collaborated to write the script.

The Nevers will premiere on HBO Max in the US this April meaning that it should land here in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV fairly soon after.
