HBO renews Westworld and others for season 2
HBO has announced that its gun-toting sci-fi series Westworld has been renewed for a second season.
The series, which stars Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris, was one of the 3 HBO shows to be renewed by the network.
Both Insecure, a comedy based on the popular web series Awkward Black Girl and Divorce, starring Sarah Jessica Parker have also been confirmed to be returning for a second run.
Westworld is nearing the end of its debut season, and has proved to be very popular with viewers, with an average of 11.7 million viewers tuning in every week.
The show has also outperformed mega-hit series Game of Thrones and True Detective on their first seasons.
Westworld is a loose adaption of the 1973 film from acclaimed novelist Michael Crichton that follows a Wild West-themed adventure park filled with lifelike androids.
It's been heralded as HBO's newest big-time drama, with some claiming it could match Game of Thrones in popularity.
Insecure meanwhile has garnered a comparatively modest 3.2 million viewers per episode, but has been critically acclaimed, with a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sarah Jessica Parker vehicle Divorce has been received less well, but is still due to return for a new season at some point next year.
Westworld is expected to come back in early 2018, with resources currently being put into the penultimate season of Game of Thrones.
