HBO to adapt Mrs. Fletcher from Leftovers author

The author's latest novel is headed to HBO.

HBO is set to adapt another novel from The Leftovers author Tom Perrotta.

The channel has ordered a pilot for a TV adaptation of Mrs Fletcher, which was released last year.

The pilot will be written by Perrotta (who will also serve as executive producer) and will star Kathryn Hahn as the titular character.

Mrs Fletcher has been described as a “dual coming-of-age story” and revolves around a divorced mother as she finds ways to spend time now her son has left for university.

The official synopsis expands on what the series will potentially cover:

Mrs Fletcher is a dual coming-of-age story, exploring the impact of Internet porn and social media on our most intimate relationships. One that revolves around Eve as “she adopts a sexy new persona and discovers that her world is full of unexpected — and sometimes complicated — erotic possibilities.”

So far, so HBO. This will mark the second time one of Perrotta's novels has been adapted for the small screen by the premium US cable network.

The Leftovers aired its third and final season on HBO last year, with the series being acclaimed by basically anyone who watched it, which was sadly far too few people.

Damon Lindelof (Lost) took the role of writing The Leftovers, with Perrotta acting as an executive producer on the show.

Should Mrs Fletcher be picked up for a full series, the show will make its way to Sky Atlantic, thanks to the deal between HBO and Sky.
