How I Met Your Father series in the works
The announcement comes seven years after the original concluded.
A spinoff to the hit comedy series How I Met Your Mother is in development at US-only streaming service Hulu.
Titled How I Met Your Father, the show will star former Disney actress Hilary Duff as a woman named Sophie telling her son the story of how she met his Dad.
“The story will catapult us back to 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options,” reads the official plot synopsis.
The project hails from Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the current co-showrunners of acclaimed drama This Is Us, who will also write the script.
Created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, the original How I Met Your Mother series ran for nine seasons between 2005 to 2014 and starred Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segal, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders.
US network CBS previously ordered a pilot of How I Met Your Dad in 2013 with Ladybird director Greta Gerwig which didn’t get picked up.
“We are beyond excited to be bringing How I Met Your Father to Hulu,” said Aptaker and Berger. “Carter and Craig’s iconic series revolutionized the half-hour comedy, and we are so honored to be carrying the torch forward for the next generation – and with Hilary Duff no less!”
You can stream all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix now.
