Idris Elba confirmed for Dark Tower TV series
Idris Elba’s character from the upcoming film adaptation of Dark Tower will appear in the spin-off TV series.
The movie, starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, among others, is due to be released in February 2017, with a companion TV series also in production.
An adaption of Stephen King's hugely popular fantasy sci-fi novel series, Dark Tower follows Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) as he attempts to save his decaying world by making it to the mysterious Dark Tower.
The TV series is due to be set years before the events of the film, with a younger Roland Deschain learning the ways of gun-slinging before the collapse of ‘Mid-World', the movie's setting.
The shows creators have said that the series will take much of its inspiration from the fourth book in the series, Wizard and Glass, which focuses on a younger version of the main character.
Executive producer for the series, Akiva Goldsman, said that the TV show would complement the movie and that the addition of Idris Elba would help with this.
“In the movie, Roland is suffering tremendous loss. The most concrete, personal, existential heartbreak a character can have.”
“If the movie chronicles his final reach toward hope again, the TV show is the loss of that hope.”
The first season of the show is planned to run with 10 to 13 episodes, and will begin production at some point next year.
