Iron Fist season 2 to have new showrunner
Iron Fist is set to head in a new direction.
The second season of Iron Fist is set to have a new showrunner, Marvel has announced.
The 4th series in the Netflix and Marvel partnership aired earlier in the year to tepid reviews, with critics claiming that the plot was uninteresting and series lead Finn Jones was not up to the task.
Now, Marvel head of TV Jeph Loeb (previously a comic book writer who penned issues of Spider-Man, Daredevil, Superman and Batman) has hired a new showrunner for the planned second season.
Scott Buck will be replaced by Raven Metzner, who previously worked on the now-cancelled Sleepy Hollow series.
Despite the suggestions of this move, Loeb has claimed that the replacement was not a move to ‘course-correct' the series.
“What happened, really very simply, was [Season 1 showrunner] Scott Buck was on [ABC Marvel series] Inhumans and we were delighted to get another order from Netflix and knew that Scott was not going to be available to us. We set out to find a new showrunner. Raven came in, told us a story and we thought, ‘that's the next epic adventure for this character' and got very excited about it.”
Marvel's Inhumans is the upcoming series that will join Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as part of ABC's Marvel lineup.
News of a new showrunner is one of the only things we currently know about Iron Fist season 2, which will probably not air until at least late 2018.
The character is set to return next month as part of The Defenders, a series which combines the powers of Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in an Avengers-style team-up.
The Defenders is set to air on Netflix on August 18th, with The Punisher slated for later in the year.
