ITV to launch new streaming service ITVX

ITV has announced it’s to launch its very own streaming service ITVX.

It will replace their existing on demand catch-up platform ITV Hub and offer both a free viewing option with adverts included and a pay monthly subscription model. 

It’s not clear how much this subscription fee will be, but it’ll give you access to all of the ITV content ad-free along with an extra selection of content from Britbox and certain TV shows from the US. 

ITVX will launch sometime in the fourth quarter of 2022 with 15,000 hours of content and what’s described as a “starry premiere” each week. 

Multiple shows will debut on the service up to a full nine months before they’re shown on the linear ITV channel and like Netflix and its fellow competitors, some will also immediately be available to stream in their entirety. 

Some of the series set for its launch include Litvinenko which stars David Tennant as the former Russian spy, Lenny Henry and It’s A Sin’s Russell T. Davis’ drama Little Birds and Cold War spy drama A Spy Among Friends with Damien Lewis and Guy Pearce.

"We are confident that we will become a UK leader in streaming,” said Carolyn McCall, chief executive at ITV. 

“Our ambitions in the streaming world are not world domination. It is about being a national champion. It is compelling and our expectations of subscriber numbers have been modelled in a very realistic way.”
