Janelle Monae to star in Homecoming season 2
This will be the actress and singer's first TV role.
Janelle Monae is to star in the second season of Amazon’s psychological thriller Homecoming.
The singer and actress, notable for her well-received roles in both Hidden Figures and Moonlight, will take over the lead role from Julia Roberts.
Roberts’s character Heidi was the focus of the first season as a troubled social worker investigating a mysterious facility for soldiers suffering with PTSD.
Monae will play a “tenacious” women who wakes up floating in a canoe with no recollection of who she is or how she got there.
Not too much other information is available on plot, but this upcoming series is expected to “deviate wildly” from the popular Gimlet Media podcast the first was based on.
Although she won’t appear on-screen, Roberts will remain on-board the project as an executive producer alongside returning showrunner Sam Esmail.
It’s not yet clear if the rest of the first season’s cast, which included Bobby Cannavale, Shea Wingham, Alex Karpovsky and Sissy Spacek, will be back.
Production is expected to get underway later this summer indicating a release date of sometime in 2020.
You can stream all of the first ten episodes of Homecoming on Amazon now.
