Jason Momoa to star in Apple original drama

The Game of Thrones and Aquaman star will head up the sci-fi series.

Justice League star Jason Momoa will star in Apple’s original sci-fi series See.

The actor, who plays Aquaman in the superhero film series, has signed on to star in Apple’s first foray into original programming.

See is a sci-fi drama written by Peaky Blinders and Taboo creator Stephen Knight and is set in a future society where humanity has lost the ability to see and has found new ways to socialise and survive.

Momoa will star as Baba Voss, a warrior and guardian of the society. As well as Justice League, Game of Thrones fans will also recognise him Khal Drogo from season 1 of the show.

Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence will direct all 8 episodes of the first season as well as acting as an executive producer.

See is one of the many original series Apple is reportedly working on, with the tech giant set to spend $1 billion over the course of the year.

Alongside See, Apple has a number of deals in place for original programming, including big-money deals with Oprah Winfrey, Sesame Workshop (the company behind Sesame Street) and a planned series adapting Isaac Asimov’s Foundation novels.

Last year, Apple hit the TV scene with a full series of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps, which essentially acted as Dragon’s Den for app developers (and for some reason included Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow and Will.i.am as judges).

Whilst there’s no news yet on when See will hit Apple’s service, filming is apparently set for later this year.

The standalone Aquaman film will be released this December. In the meantime, you can catch Jason Momoa in Game of Thrones now via NOW TV Entertainment and Sky Box Sets.
