Jerry Seinfeld to direct and star in Pop Tart film for Netflix
Unfrosted will explore the origins of the toaster pastry which has remained a popular snack in the US for decades.

Jerry Seinfeld is to direct, star in and produce a new feature film for Netflix about the creation of Pop Tarts.
Titled Unfrosted, former Seinfeld writer Spike Feresten and Bee Movie’s Barry Marder partnered with him to co-write the script which stemmed from a joke in his 2020 comedy special 23 Hours To Kill.
The comedian explained in a statement the idea for the project first came to him during those scary days at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV, I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness,” Seinfeld said.
“So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.”
An auction for the rights to the project took place over the last several days with the streaming giant emerging as the winner.
Production is set to begin on Unfrosted some time next year meaning that confirmation of an official release date is still some way off.
If you can’t wait until then to see more of the comedian, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has confirmed that iconic comedy series Seinfeld will begin streaming sometime in the later half of 2021 as part of a five-year deal.
