John Boyega exits Netflix film Rebel Ridge
The search is currently underway for a replacement.
John Boyega has exited his role in the upcoming Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge.
The actor, who’s best known for playing reformed Storm Trooper Finn in the new Star Wars trilogy, cited “family reasons” as the motivation behind his decision to leave.
Shooting on the film began back in May after being delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic but is now on pause while the streaming giant searches for Boyega’s replacement.
Hailing from Green Room’s Jeremy Saulnier, Rebel Ridge is described as “a high-velocity thriller that explores systemic American injustices through intense action sequences, suspense and dark humor”.
AnnaSophia Robb, The OA’s Emory Cohen, James Cromwell, Don Johnson, Al Vincente, James Badge Dale and Zsane Jhe are still all set to star.
“We remain committed to Jeremy Saulnier’s extraordinary film and look forward to resuming production,” said a spokesperson for Netflix.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with John Boyega’s UpperRoom Productions, in addition to our upcoming film They Cloned Tyrone in which he also stars.”
