John Carpenter to direct horror anthology pilot

Carpenter will helm the first episode of the new horror series.

John Carpenter is set to direct the pilot of the planned horror anthology series Tales for a Halloween Night.

The legendary horror director, who's overseen classics such as Halloween and The Thing, will come out of semi-retirement to direct the first episode of the anthology series, which is planned to be aired on SyFy.

In a recent interview, Sandy King - Carpenter's producing partner (and wife) - confirmed the director's involvement in the project.

He would direct the pilot, at least. And then we'll hopefully bring on some great horror directors—and just great directors—so that it'll be a high-end show. We want anything that has our brand associated with it to be a satisfying experience for readers, watchers, whatever we're doing.”

Tales for a Halloween Night will be based on Carpenter's graphic novel series of the same name, which featured horror stories penned by the man himself.

This is not the first time Carpenter has worked on TV, with the director working on 1978 TV thriller Someone's Watching Me as well as the TV movie Elvis, which starred his longtime acting collaborator Kurt Russell.

Despite this being his first directing work since 2010's The Ward, Carpenter has plenty of other irons in the fire, with the director recently releasing his own music with the Lost Themes albums.

Carpenter will also produce the upcoming Halloween film, which sees Jamie Lee Curtis return to the franchise in a direct sequel to Halloween 2, which will ignore the other sequels and will mark the director's first involvement in the series since Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.
