Legion renewed for season 3

It's likely we'll see it sometime in early to mid 2019.

Noah Hawley's trippy X-Men spinoff Legion has been renewed for a third season, US TV network FX has announced.

There's currently no official word on the number of episodes it'll contain or on which date it's likely to premiere, although judging from past release dates it's likely to be sometime in early to mid 2019.

As the second season still has two full-length episodes left to air, it's also not yet completely clear exactly which cast members will be returning.

Legion follows David Haller (Dan Stevens) who falsely believed himself to be an unstable schizophrenia until a chance meeting with the mysterious Syd (Rachel Keller) reveals he's actually one of the world's most powerful mutants.

It's not officially part of either the X-Men universe or Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), instead standing completely on its own.

Although live TV ratings for Legion have never been amazingly strong, it's consistently received incredibly high acclaim from both fans and critics alike.

“Legion has redefined the superhero drama and exceeded all expectations as the intensity and revelation build through the second season,” said Eric Schrier President of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

“We are incredibly proud of Noah Hawley's achievement and are honored to continue the series as it pushes the boundaries of conventional television storytelling.”
