Live-action Godzilla series in the works at Apple TV+
It'll follow on from the events of 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong.
A live-action Godzilla series is headed to Apple TV+.
The currently untitled project will be set in Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse and serve as a continuation of the story from last year’s blockbuster Godzilla vs. Kong.
That film left off with Godzilla resuming his place as King of the Titans while Kong headed back to his ancestral home of the Hollow Earth.
A plot synopsis released by the platform reveals that this show will take a dive into Monarch, the shadowy government institute tasked with investigating and destroying the Titans.
“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch,” it reads.
This Godzilla series was co-created by Matt Fraction and Star Trek: Enterprise’s Chris Black who will also serve as showrunner.
There have been four films in Legendary's Monsterverse so far, Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and the aforementioned Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), which have collectively grossed over $2 billion worldwide.
An animated Skull Island spinoff series is also in development at Netflix which will follow a crew who become shipwrecked there.
Apple TV+’s live-action Godzilla series doesn’t yet have a release date.
