Luke Cage cancelled after 2 seasons
Cage is the latest Netflix casualty.
Netflix Marvel series Luke Cage has been cancelled.
The superhero series, which featured the titular indestructible Harlem hero, won't see any more seasons on the streaming service.
The announcement comes just days after it was revealed that Netflix has cancelled fellow Marvel series Iron Fist.
Season 2 of Luke Cage premiered earlier this year to little fanfare, suggesting that it wasn’t watched by a large number of Netflix subscribers.
In a statement, Netflix said that it was grateful for the series and those who created it.
"Unfortunately, Marvel's Luke Cage will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem's Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series."
Despite theories suggesting that the cancellation was due to viewing figures, sources suggest that it was actually because of creative differences
Netflix now has 3 Marvel shows remaining: Daredevil, The Punisher and Jessica Jones.
Punisher and Jessica Jones are both confirmed to return in 2019, with Daredevil recently airing its 3rd season.
There was some speculation that the Netflix Marvel shows would all be cancelled to make way for Disney’s planned streaming service, though it is likely that it won’t want R-rated programming on its platform.
You can catch both seasons of Luke Cage on Netflix now.
