Matthew McConaughey to star in a Time to Kill sequel series
No Time For Mercy will be based on John Grisham's follow up novel of the same name which was published in 2020.
A sequel series to the 1996 courtroom thriller A Time To Kill is in development at HBO with star Matthew McConaughey set to reprise his role.
The True Detective actor played lawyer Jake Brigance in the original film which was directed by Joel Schumacher and based on John Grisham’s best selling novel of the same name.
Brigance becomes embroiled in an incredibly high-profile case when he agrees to represent Carl Lee Hailey (Samuel L. Jackson) who murdered the two men who brutally attacked his ten-year-old daughter.
This new series will serve as an adaptation of Grisham’s third Brigance novel A Time For Mercy which sees him defend a sixteen-year-old boy who shot and killed his mother’s abusive boyfriend, the local deputy sheriff.
It will consist of between eight and ten episodes with Lorenzo di Bonaventura set to produce. A writer or director has yet to be attached to the project.
A Time To Kill also starred Sandra Bullock, Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland and Ashley Judd and help to launched McConaughey’s career as a dramatic actor.
There is currently no release for A Time For Mercy.
