Meryl Streep to star in Big Little Lies season 2
The actress signs a big money deal to star in season 2.
Meryl Streep has been confirmed to appear in season 2 of Big Little Lies.
The actress will join the cast for the second season alongside Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.
Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard's Perry Wright, whose death was being investigated in the first season.
Big Little Lies was originally created as a single season series, but was commissioned for a follow-up season after the show won 8 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes among huge critical acclaim.
The show is based off a novel by author Liane Moriarty, but HBO plans to expand beyond the end of the book.
Scripts for the season have apparently already been written, with the original production team returning. From the cast, only Kidman and Witherspoon have been confirmed to return, with Streep joining them.
The actress recently received her 21st Oscar nomination for the film The Post and will reportedly earn up to $800,000 per episode of Big Little Lies.
American Honey and Fish Tank director Andrea Arnold is set to direct all the episodes of season 2, taking over from Jean-Marc Vallee.
