Midnight Sky proves huge hit for Netflix
More than 72 million households have watched George Clooney's sci-fi film.
Viewing figures for George Clooney’s new Netflix film Midnight Sky show that project is a huge hit for the streaming giant.
The official Netflix Film account on Twitter revealed that it’s now been watched by more than 72 million households..
This puts Midnight Sky on track to becoming one of Netflix’s most popular films ever in its first 28 days of release.
To compare, in the same time frame Martin Scorsese’s epic mob drama The Irishman received 64 million views and wildly popular teen rom-com The Kissing Booth 2 got 66 million views.
George Clooney both directs and stars in the film which follows his lone, dying scientist Augustine as he attempts to contact the spaceship Æther and prevent its crew from returning to a destroyed earth.
According to Deadline, its also reached the number spot in 77 countries and entered the top ten list in 93 countries.
Despite it’s overwhelming popularity with Netflix viewers, Midnight Sky has received mostly average reviews from critics and currently sits at a middling 52% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The platform’s most watched original film ever is action film Extraction starring Thor’s Chris Hemsworth which attracted a staggering 99 million viewers in its first 4 weeks of release.
