Netflix announces cast for Shadow and Bone series
The YA fantasy series revolves around powerful magic users known as Grisha.

Netflix has announced the cast for its upcoming YA fantasy series Shadow and Bone.
The project is to serve as a “reimagining” of Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling Grishaverse novels, drawing inspiration from both her original Grisha trilogy and the later Six of Crows duology.
Set in a fantasy land reminiscent of Imperialist Russia, it follows a young orphan turned soldier named Alina who discovers she’s a Grisha, a powerful magic user who’s able to control the power of light.
Stage actress Jessie Mei Li will star as Alina while Westworld’s Ben Barnes is to take on the role of seemingly heroic military leader General "Darkling" Kirigan who actually wants to harness her abilities for evil.
Archie Renauz is Mal, Alina’s best friend and romantic interest who’s an expert tracker.
Pennyworth’s Freddy Carter is Kaz, a criminal prodigy who leads a feared gang known as the Dregs in the Amsterdam-inspired city of Ketterdam.
Doctor Who’s Amita Suman and Kit Young play two major members of his gang, a dangerous spy known as the Wraith and sharpshooter with a gambling addiction respectively.
Shadow and Bone will directed by Lee Toland Kreiger and written by Eric Heisserer, who also authored screenplays for Arrival and Netflix’s Bird Box.
Production on the show is soon set to begin Budapest but there’s not yet an official release date available.
