Netflix planning Roald Dahl animated movies

Willy Wonka, The Twits and more are headed to Netflix.

Netflix has announced that it will produce new animated movies based on Roald Dahl’s classic books.

The streaming service revealed that it is partnering with the Roal Dahl estate to create new versions of the children’s stories exclusively for its platform.

This will include books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, The Twits, Matilda, The BFG and more.

A short teaser trailer showed some of the works that would be adapted for Netflix, though it did not offer a release window.

Roald Dahl’s wife, Felicity Dahl, said that the estate was looking forward to seeing the authors works animated on-screen.

"Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl’s stories.

"This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled."

Netflix has claimed that these animations will be a mixture of specials and series and will go into production next year.

This is the second Roald Dahl announcement in as many weeks, with a new version of Tales of the Unexpected also being put into production.
