Netflix releases first trailer for Maniac
The series will be released in its entirety on 21st September.
Netflix has released the first vibrantly surreal full-length trailer for Cary Joji Fukunaga’s upcoming dark-comedy series Maniac.
A bigger budget English-language remake of the 2014 Norwegian series of the same name, it stars Jonah Hill and Emma Stone as two lonely, disaffected participants of a strange new pharmaceutical trial.
Not too much else has been revealed about the plot, and the trailer’s depiction of them both travelling across a multitude of different universes and scenarios as a part of the treatment doesn’t give much in the way of answers.
The project marks the first time the two have worked together since hilarious teen comedy Superbad back in 2007.
The rest of the cast also includes Sally Field and Justin Theroux as the two mysterious doctors running the trial as well as former Girls actress Jemima Kirke, Gabriel Byrne and Billy Magnussen in as of yet unannounced roles.
Maniac was written by Patrick Somerville and all ten episodes were directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga who’s responsible for the entirety of the fantastic first season of True Detective.
Hill and Stone are the latest two high-profile actors to join a Netflix project following in the footsteps of other major Hollywood A-listers like Brad Pitt, Will Smith and Naomi Watts.
All ten episodes of Maniac will be available to stream on Netflix from 21st September.
