Netflix renews Frontier for season 3

The six-episode season will debut sometime in 2018.

Netflix has renewed the Canadian historical-drama series Frontier for a third season.

Like the previous two seasons, it's set to consist of six-hour long episodes which will all be released simultaneously sometime in 2018.

Game of Thrones's Jason Momoa stars as the enigmatic late 17th century fur-trapper Declan Harp who's determined to break the Hudson Bay Company's monopoly on the Canadian fur trade by any means necessary.

Frontier has received mostly mixed reviews from critics, who heaped praise upon the nicely diverse cast and Momoa's highly-engaging lead performance but expressed dislike over its apparently sluggish storytelling and clumsy script.

Other major cast members include Landon Liboiron star of Netflix's cancelled horror series Hemlock Grove, Braveheart's Alun Armstrong, Downtown Abbey's Zoe Boyle and Supergirl's Katie McGrath.

Co-created by film directors and brothers Rob and Peter Blackie, the show was originally developed for and shown on Discovery Canada before an agreement was signed to allow the streaming giant to broadcast it overseas.
