Netflix renews Shadow and Bone for season 2
A release date is not yet known.
Hit fantasy series Shadow and Bone will return for a second season, Netflix has announced.
The news was confirmed across several different platforms including by a tweet from the show’s official Twitter account and a YouTube video featuring the main cast.
Given it’s high viewership numbers, the show’s renewal doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. According to the streaming giant, 55 million households tuned into the series within its first 28 days of release.
The show also received excellent reviews from critics and it currently sits at an impressive 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Based on Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling Grishaverse trilogy, it follows orphaned soldier Alina (Jessie Mei Li) who one day discovers that she has the power to summon light.
She’s quickly recruited by General Kirigan (Ben Barnes) to help with destroying the Shadow Fold, an imposing stretch of land that’s home to terrifying monsters known as The Volcra.
Archie Renaux, Zoe Wanamaker, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman and Kit Young also star.
Showrunner Eric Heisserer has said that his plans for this upcoming include further delving into the fledgling romance between Alina and her childhood best friend Mal (Renaux), returning to follow street gang The Crows and introducing key book characters like Wylan Van Eck and Nikolai
