Netflix reveal most binge-raced series

Marvel's The Defenders is the show that the most people have raced to consume over a 24-hour period.

Marvel's superhero series The Defenders is Netflix's most binge-raced show, according to a brand-new press release from the streaming giant.

Binge-racing, a term which was actually coined within this press release, is defined as when a viewer acts to "race" through a whole TV series in just 24 hours.

TV critics at Forbes magazine state that binge-racing as a phemonen has evolved out of the Netflix-style model of making an entire series of a TV show available at once. In order to avoid spoilers and to be able to engage in conversations about these shows, viewers are accelerating their consumption speeds.

Netflix have estimated that around 8.4 million of its subscribers worldwide have indulged in binge-racing behaviour since signing up for the service.

Starring Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones, The Defenders unites the four superheroes from Marvel's Netflix only TV shows to defeat Sigourney Weaver's mysterious villian Alexandra and save New York City.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life starring Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and Melissa McCarthy is the platform's second most binge-raced show followed by anime series The Seven Deadly Sins, Drew Barrymore's ten-part gory horror-comedy Santa Clarita Diet and acclaimed prison drama Orange is the New Black
